18.6 A larger ontology: Answer

Answer for "A larger ontology"

There is no single answer, so we will not give the answer here. However, the following is an attempt at a categorization.

Points to discuss:

  • This ontology indicates that "Mental-state" is a subtype of "Physical". What could be said for and against such a classification?
  • Could we give "Color" a supertype that would include other things as well as colors? Or does it really belong just beneath "Physical"? Is it physical at all, or is there an element of the abstract in "Color"? Can a color exist independently or is it always relative to something else?
  • What would happen to the classification of "Book" and "TV" under "Inanimate", if we were to add the categories "Computer", "Radio", "Chair", and "Cup"?
